I have managed 995 matches – Mourinho ‘calm’ ahead of first Roma game

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has insisted he is “calm” ahead of his first competitive game at the club.

According to him, he has taken charge of 995 games in his career and doesn’t need to get anxious.

“It’s true that this will be my first official match with this club.

“But it will be my 996th match if I’m not mistaken so I am calm,” Mourinho said ahead of Thursday’s Europa Conference League play-off first leg at Trabzonspor.

Ahead of the game in UEFA’s new third-tier club tournament, the 58-year-old said: “For me, it doesn’t seem like a Conference League play-off, but rather a Europa League or Champions League match because the two clubs played the Champions League a few years ago.”

Mourinho also said he expects great things from new 40-million-euro signing Tammy Abraham, who he bought in from former club Chelsea.

Abraham arrived after veteran striker Edin Dzeko joined Inter Milan to replace Romelu Lukaku.

“Abraham doesn’t have the history of Edin, who is 35, but he’s won it all and he’s still young, with great potential,” Mourinho said.

Roma begin their Serie A campaign on Sunday at home against Fiorentina.
