Carabao Cup Round of 16: Teams expected to qualify for quarter-final stage

Following the Carabao Cup round of 16 (fourth round) draw this week, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are all expected to qualify for the quarter-final stage this season due to their ‘current form and experience’ in the game.

DAILY POST reports that Chelsea have won three out of their last four games against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, Tottenham in the Premier League and Zenit in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Man City, on the other hand, have not lost a game in their last four matches. Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Wycombe 6-1 in the Carabao Cup, played 0-0 against Southampton and defeated RB Leipzig in the Champions League and won 1-0 against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Citizens are currently the Carabao Cup holders. They defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the final at Wembley last season to win the trophy.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have also won three out of their last four matches against AC Milan in the Champions League, Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Norwich City in the Carabao Cup third round and Brantford in the Premier League.

The draw for the Carabao Cup Round of 16 was conducted on Wednesday night.

Chelsea, who needed penalties to beat Aston Villa, will play Southampton next at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City will face West Ham, who eliminated Manchester United from the Carabao Cup in the third round.

Liverpool, on the other hand, will face Preston in the next round.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Carabao Cup Round of 16 fixtures, two Manchester City players, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez, Chelsea’s Reece James and Liverpool trio, Takumi Minamino, Caoimhin Kelleher and Kostas Tsimikas, were named in the Carabao Cup third-round team for their brilliant display.

The Carabao Cup round of 16 will be played on October 26 and 27, respectively.
