Aiteo Cup: Kano Pillars outsmart, knock out Smart City in Lokoja

Kano Pillars on Wednesday eliminated Smart City FC from the 2021 Aiteo Cup after emerging 4-2 winners to move to the next round of the competition.

The game, which was played at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, saw Kano Pillars leading two goals in the first half.

The Kano-based club added another goal in the early stage of the second half through a wonderful volley.

Smart City came back into the game to reduce the goal deficit by scoring two quick goals.

The Aiteo Cup defending champions sealed their victory two minutes from time through a counter-attack after wasteful Smart City failed to convert their chances to level the game.

Speaking shortly after the game, the Technical Adviser of Kano Pillars, Ibrahim Musa, praised his players for their resilience in beating their opponent.

“We carried this performance from our last premier league match against Lobi Stars. We are taking every match seriously even though we are the defending champion of the Aiteo Cup. So, that is why we came out like a wounded lion to defeat our opponent,” he stated.

On his part, the Technical Adviser of Smart City FC Lukman Osun described the outcome of the game as very unfortunate.

He said, ” We lost this game because my boys failed to convert their chances. But God knows the best”.
