Some days you look at the Mets lineup and wonder how they will win. Three hours later, they found a way to do it. How this team remains in first place is a testament to a few things: the job Luis Rojas has done, the pitching being fantastic, timely hits and, well, the opponents being bad. All this combined means 24-20, three out of four over the Rockies and three games at Citi Field coming against the Braves.

To talk about the rag-tag Mets, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me, featuring a chat with Suzie Hunter.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:

  • WINNING/LUIS ROJAS: Mets have a Quadruple-A lineup and are winning games. Pitching has been fantastic. Rojas deserves credit for keeping this team afloat and in first place. Taijuan Walker returns this weekend. Pete Alonso should be back soon. Mets are 22-10 against teams under .500.
  • SETBACKS: Will we see Noah Syndergaard again this season? He will be a free agent after this season and will need to prove he’s healthy and can pitch. J.D. Davis with another setback. Carlos Carrasco may not be back until July. This team just can not get healthy and will need lineup help. Cameron Maybin has been terrible. Billy McKinney gets inserted into cleanup spot less than a day after being acquired by the Mets.

Figgie’s Fables: Figgie talks about getting a hit off Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and John Smoltz in his career. He also had a triple once that he wanted to make an inside-the-park home run…but Razor Shines stopped him at third base.
