It appears Tim Tebow is starting a trend.
Former Giants running back Brandon Jacobs wrote on Twitter Thursday that he wants to make an NFL comeback as a defensive end “for whatever team gives me a chance!!!”
Jacobs, 38, hasn’t played in the NFL since 2013, when he appeared in seven games for the Giants, with whom he won two Super Bowls.
“I am really serious about coming back as a defensive end,” Jacobs wrote. “I can still run, I am strong and there’s no way Tim Tebow is a better athlete than I am. I just need a shot that’s it!! If I can’t cut it I’ll take it like a man. Just give me one chance that’s all!!”
The Giants selected Jacobs in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He spent eight total seasons with Big Blue; he spent 2012 with the 49ers before returning.
Jacobs doesn’t seem to think much of Tebow’s comeback attempt with the Jaguars as a tight end after he last played in the NFL as a quarterback with the Jets in 2012. Tebow spent time with the Eagles and Patriots after his Jets stint but never appeared in a regular-season game for them. He then joined the Mets in the minor leagues to pursue a baseball career that never reached the majors.
In 109 career regular-season games, Jacobs rushed for 5,094 yards and 60 touchdowns. He had 461 yards and four rushing touchdowns in 11 postseason games.
