READ: Matthew 5:29-30

  1. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
  2. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 21-22, 2 Corinthians 4:1-18

MESSAGE:

The enjoyment and glory awaiting all who finally make it to heaven is so great and cannot be comprehended by human minds. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus encouraged us to get there. He said if your right hand will hinder you from entering heaven, cut it off. When I was a young believer, I queried God about this. If He loved me, why would He suggest that I cut off my right hand to be with Him? Then He showed me the vision of a man running towards heaven as a multitude was singing joyfully and strolling. By the time he got to the gate of heaven, the huge sliding door was closing. As he entered, the gate finally shut leaving his right hand outside. Then an angel came to him and gave him two options; to go out with his body complete or cut off the right hand so the door can be properly shut. If you were the man, which would you choose?

It is God’s will that all men be saved but some prefer to remain in their sin and this makes the heart of God bleed. If you must make it to heaven, you need to walk in obedience and commitment. Cut off anything or anyone luring you into sin or distracting you from focusing on heaven. This loss will be beneficial to you in eternity.

PRAYER POINT:

God, please take away from me anything that’s capable of hindering me from getting to heaven.

HYMNS: In Christ Alone

  1. In Christ alone my hope is found
    He is my light, my strength, my song;
    This Cornerstone; this solid ground;
    Firm through the fiercest drought and storm;
    What heights of love, what depths of peace
    When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
    My Comforter, my All in All
    Here in the love of Christ
  2. In Christ alone, who took on flesh
    Fullness of God in helpless babe
    This gift of love and righteousness
    Scorned by the ones He came to save
    ‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
    The wrath of God was satisfied
    For every sin on Him was laid
    Here in the death of Christ I live, I live.
  3. There in the ground His body lay
    Light of the world by darkness slain
    Then bursting forth in glorious Day
    Up from the grave He rose again
    And as He stands in victory
    Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
    For I am His and He is mine
    Bought with the precious blood of Christ
  4. No guilt in life, no fear in death
    This is the power of Christ in me
    From life’s first cry to final breath
    Jesus commands my destiny
    No power of hell, no scheme of man
    Can ever pluck me from His hand
    Till He returns or calls me home
    Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.
