TOPIC: Conduct Towards Elders [Open Heaven for Teens 23 December 2021]

MEMORISE: Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5

READ: 1 Timothy 5:17-19 (KJV)

  1. Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
  2. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
  3. Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Habakkuk 1-3, Revelation 14:1-20

MESSAGE:

Honouring elders is a vital part of home training. God expects you to treat elders with respect. For instance, if you see an elder carrying something heavy, do not wait till you’re called before you assist him or her. It is also wrong to walk past an elder without greeting. In some homes, some children will remain on their seat or before the television when their parents return from an outing; this is not good. Any child who has respect would pause his/her activity to properly welcome his/her parent and help with any luggage or item.

When you see an elder sweeping, cleaning, washing or doing some chores, you should immediately take over such. You should be careful when dealing with elders because you can easily receive a blessing or a curse by your action to them. If they do anything wrong to you, prayerfully bring it to their notice and don’t argue with them.

KEY POINT:

Mind how you treat elders now because you will someday become one.

HYMN: AMAZING GRACE

  1. Amazing grace!
    how sweet the sound!
    That saved a wretch like me;
    I once was lost,
    but now am found,
    was blind, but now I see.
  2. ‘Twas grace that taught
    my heart to fear,
    And grace my fears relieved;
    How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believed!
  3. Through many dangers,
    toils and snares
    I have already come;
    ‘Tis grace that brought
    me safe thus far,
    And grace will lead me home.
  4. Yes, when this heart and flesh
    shall fail,
    And mortal life shall cease,
    I shall possess within the veil,
